Traditional sculpture may be the most recognized in 3D art. Contemporary artists Hollowell and Perucchetti use abstraction to produce work that is intrinsically 'personal'. I will discuss their solo shows.

The difference between 2D and 3D art is the addition of depth to length and width.

In 2019 I visited the flagship Pace Gallery in West Chelsea, NYC where woman artist Loie Hollowell had a sold-out show, "Plumb Line".

These nine (9) pieces were an abstraction of her body during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum.

Hollowell called her work "honest, but personal."

Italian artist Mauro Perucchetti, now living in London, is perhaps best known for his sculptures "Jelly Baby" Family which alludes to human cloning.

During the pandemic, the artist spent much time in nature and was inspired to create SUPERFICI (surfaces) - all about textures, topography, caves, lava eruptions and coral reefs. Climate change and the race to save the planet prompted him to connect to mother earth.

Mauro Perucchetti states, "Painting is intrinsically related to my emotions and experiences and SUPERFICI is the result of uncountable scans of the surroundings that my senses record while being in nature. The beauty that manifests itself with textures, colours and scents in nature becomes abstract on canvas."

In the words of Art Director, Lorena Perucchetti:

"Mauro channels a minimal approach to painting through an intense yet controlled use of colour, brush and medium. Working in pigment, oil paint, and mixed media, he challenges the fundamentals of painting with luscious compositions of textural forms which seem to reconnect what is on the canvas to the textures of its origins on the painter's palette."
